The SPEED Laboratory, based in the Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering at the University of Glasgow,
has openings for Ph.D. research in several areas covering electrical and mechanical engineering in relation to the
electromagnetic and thermal design of electrical machines and software for this purpose.
These opportunities would also interest graduates in Computing Science, Mathematics and Physics who may be interested
in a change of direction towards applied technology while practising their graduate skills at the highest level.
Financial support is available and may be negotiated according to the skill and qualifications of the candidate. Among the
qualifications we are looking for are a high work rate, a broad intellectual background, and a high standard of literacy in
addition to the expected technical competence. We welcome applications from well motivated candidates with an Honours
degree from a broad range of disciplines.
Ph.D. students in the SPEED Lab. work in a multidisciplinary team that enjoys high exposure to world industry as well as a
challenging programme of academic research. The Lab. is based in one of the UKs largest and well equipped departments,
rated as a Grade 5 in the most recent Research Assessment Exercise.
